Introduction

The Dow International Medical College (DIMC) was established in 2007. DIMC is a constituent college of Dow University of Health Sciences, offered specifically to facilitate the medical education for the children of overseas Pakistanis residing all around the world. DIMC is following the semester system as per the directives of Pakistan Medical and Dental Council (PMDC). A spirally integrated modular curriculum has been adopted by Dow University of Health Sciences since 2009. DIMC is included in the WHO directory of Medical Schools and IMED – Foundation for Advancement of International Medical Education and Research.

The college resides within a state-of-the-art building, constructed over an area of 200,000 square feet. The college has five fully equipped laboratories, including a Power Lab, a-well established Anatomy and Forensic Museum, an exotic Dow Animal House harboring horses, rats and mice of different type and strains, rabbits, monkeys and snakes for research purposes, a skills lab for undergraduates and postgraduates, along with a Professional Development Centre for faculty development and training. The college has a three storied library with a diverse book selection, a digital library with three hundred work stations, a reading room and a video conference room.

DIMC currently has an affiliated teaching hospital at the Ojha Campus. The medical college has offered its clinical services through the Dow University Hospital, with a flourished OPD Block with busy clinics of medicine and surgery, along with their allied disciplines. Marvelous Diagnostic and Research Facilities of the college have gained great attention of Karachi city. These facilities were established by building the Dow Diagnostic Research and Reference Laboratories and the Radio Diagnostic Complex. The National Institute of Liver and Gastrointestinal Diseases and the National Institute of Diabetes and Endocrinology are not only providing medical education to students, but also providing commendable diagnostic and treatment services to the patients.

Beautifully built male and female hostels with a comfortable atmosphere and efficient security panels are available for the students of DIMC are also present within the campus. Extracurricular activities including indoor and outdoor games among the students are facilitated by a large cricket ground and a state of the art Gymnasium.
