Services Institute of Medical Sciences, Lahore has an EDUCATION ENVIRONMENT which has tremendous structural and human resource. The FACULTY at SIMS is a jewel in its crown, is professionally motivated which is a tremendous asset for the institution.

The SIMS Campus building has a unique grandeur. All the Basic Sciences departments are located in a purpose built campus where the basic and applied aspects of basic sciences are inculcated. This is the foundation of an INTEGRATED CURRICULUM.

The EDUCATIONAL CYCLE is implemented through a curriculum framework. After NEEDS ASSESSMENT the OUTCOME for a particular course, class or rotation is determined. INSTRUCTIONAL STRATEGIES ensure that teaching is equated with learning. There is emphasis on interactive and experiential aspect of teaching. Appropriate small and large groups teaching methods are implemented. SIMULATIONS have a great role in medical education. Basic Life Support (BLS) has been initiated for undergraduates. SKILLS DEVELOPMENT CENTER and EXPERIMENTAL ANIMAL LAB is a hallmark of the modern learning and teaching strategies and are an integral part of instructional strategy.

ASSESSMENT drives learning. There is a distinct demarcation into formative and summative assessment. FORMATIVE assessment and FEEDBACK are essential for learning and every effort is made to use this essential paradigm. The SUMMATIVE assessment is built on a sound formative assessment system. CPC Clinicalpathological Conference is a vital academic activity and is held twice every month. I am a strong believer in academic discipline. Curricular monitoring is to be done by attendance and internal assessment. Professional examinations are going to be monitored by the curriculum committee. 75% attendance and passing the internal assessment including send-up examination is an essential requirement to appear in University Examinations.

We at SIMS are guardians of a future medical graduate. The combination of knowledge, attitudes and skills that is the bottom line of a professional doctor needs development of a well rounded personality. I am a great believer of the tradition that health care delivery is through the combination of art and science of medicine. We are a proud custodian of very energetic and creative extracurricular activities. Our annual sports and literary week is a much awaited and contested occasion which is part of our academic calendar. The concept of competency based medical education (CBME) with appropriate tools of assessment have to be the main driving force of educational environment. Case presentations & case based discussion (CbD), Mini Clinical Examination (Mini CEX), Direct observation of procedural skills (DOPS) are few of the basic tools of assessment, which need to be implemented after appropriate Faculty Development. The Department of Medical Education (DME) of SIMS is going to play a pivotal role in FACULTY DEVELOPMENT through workshops and other interactive activities. I am very confident that the combination of human and material resources at SIMS have that magically combination and dimension where professionalism drives excellence in health care delivery teams. The ultimate purpose is better patient care and health of the society at large.

May GOD guide and help us.
