Dow Institute of Medical Technology (DIMT) was founded under the umbrella of Dow University of Health Sciences in the year 2006. The Institute is one of its kind where a Bachelor of Sciences in Medical Technology in 4 different technologies, namely Clinical Laboratory Sciences, Respiratory and Critical Care Technology, Surgical Technology and Clinical Ophthalmology Technology were offered simultaneously. This was followed by the BS Medical Technology, specialty in Perfusion Sciences.
Medical Technology is a vital part of the entire Healthcare System. This professional field encompasses the challenges and rewards of the disciplines of medicine and surgery, and simultaneously deals with the technical aspects of delivering care for the technologies required for the delivery of quality healthcare.
The discipline has its foundations in the basic sciences. Medical Technologists are recognized globally as important and essential members of the healthcare team, not only for routine medical and surgical care, but also for emergency medicine, critical care and management of disaster victims. The aim for the establishment of the Institute of Medical Technology at Dow University of Health Sciences is to ensure the Human resources development in these vital areas.
